Stage Dolls - Love Cries (1989)

Amidst the plethora of music that was flooding the music market, this may have been overlooked. The band itself sit in the Hard Rock genre, however this tune is a bit lighter but packs a punch nonetheless. It's a melodic masterpiece, simple but memorable. The Norwegian band made a brief blip on Mtv, but didn't stand out. You should enjoy this,

Give it a listen!

Krokus - Bedside Radio - 1979

What a memory...This was one of my first introductions into the hard rock and Heavy Metal music that would become a integral part of my life. 1979, sitting in the back of Keith's 1968 cherry-red metal flake AMC javelin, listening to music...No cares, no responsibility, no regrets, just good times....we got into our share of trouble but nothing producing criminal records...for me anyhow... This, along with the Godz and AC/DC's Highway to Hell were constantly coming out of the two house speakers that we sat beside that was hooked up to the under dash radio, equalizer...we all had them

Shot in the Dark - Shot in the Dark (1981)

DISCOVERED
From the first track I heard, it's a hidden gem that got buried in the onslaught of music in the overly music saturated year of 1981. This reminds me a lot of April Wine meets Blue Oyster Cult. Wow this is really good. Easily going into musical rotation. Doing a little more research on who Mark Santers is. It's made up of brothers Mark and Rick, and no other musical connections. SO an obscure band with an incredible sound. This is a HOLY SHIT!

Demon - Night of the Demon (1981)

MEMORY
From my list data, this was identified as Heavy Metal, and one of Heavy Metal's labels was 'Satan's Music'. Looking at the band name, title and cover...How appropriate. This is really good, but this is actually Hard Rock and sounds very much like Axe. This missed it's target audience by about 2 years.  HOLY SHIT! This was on the tape!

Ethel the Frog - Ethel the Frog (1980)

DISCOVERED
Well, this is definitely an original band name, I did expect New Wave punk, but this is a Hard Rock band. or This seems a bit reserved and I wish they would have stepped it up a notch. This isn't bad, but this has that 'dated' sound that many bands of the late 70's have. I did find a decent cover though.

Gamma - Gamma 2 (1980)

DISCOVERED

Judging by the title and band name, I was expecting Jazz, or Jazz Fusion. This is pure Rock N Roll. This reminds me of lot like Axe meet Rainbow with a touch of Deep Purple. Once in a while it gets a little progressive, but nothing unbearable.

The New Order - The New Order (1977)

DISCOVERED
This is borderline Hard Rock Punk Rock, so I love it. Never heard of these guys and it's most likely a result of the New Wave band 'New Order'. This is unpolished and has mediocre production, but it's still pretty darn good.

Michael Schenker Group - MSG (1981)

DISCOVERED

I used to think that Michael Schenker was overrated and distanced myself anything he was involved in. That's what happens there is an over abundance of music. This is good album. I can see how his guitar work gets attention. This is reminiscent of early Judas Priest, Rainbow and Whitesnake. There are some songs that I find mediocre at best, and others that clearly stand out.

G-Force - G-Force (1980)

DISCOVERED
If you like 80s Hard Rock, this is for you. Gary Moore and G-Force it's like Journey meets Night Ranger, but better. Gary Moore's amazing guitar work is on here and I never knew the even existed until Victims Of The Future came out, and my mortis operandi was not to go back and listen to what he had done prior. This is very very good, even though there are some slower stuff on here. The reason Gary Moore is my favorite guitar player, it's because you can feel and hear the emotion trough his guitar.

Ozz - No Prisoners (1980)

DISCOVERED

Wow, where did this come from, and why don't I know about this? I wonder if the name of the band confused or considered Ozzy?.. No matter, this is really really good. It's like a Hard Rock version of Pablo Cruise. Loud guitars and awesome vocals. Doing some research apparently the bass player from Rainbow as well as Gary Moore, Graig Gruber was a member of this band.

Tygers of Pan Tang - Crazy Nights (1981)

DISCOVERED

I have heard of these guys, probably even listened to them, but for whatever reason discarded them. Well I am giving them another complete listen. The mix is a little rough especially on the drums and sometimes I hear some vocal fails that could have been redone.

Uriah Heep - Conquest (1980)

DISCOVERED
Giving this a good listen, this sounds a lot like Axe. Which is a good thing. I cannot understand why I never listen to Uriah Heep. These guys are fantastic. I am fairly certain that it was the organ or keyboards. I found them to make the music dated or less heavy. Uriah Heep does a good job of making sure their keyboards aren't over powering.

Whitesnake - Come an' Get It (1981)

DISCOVERED
I like Whitesnake and David Coverdale's vocals, but didn't listen to them until 1984. So this is labeled as Discovered. There is some earlier stuff that I don't care for because of that damn organ, which makes it sound so dated. The organ is just waaaay to prominent. Which is a shame because the melodies are spectacular. The title track doesn't suffer too badly from their style, and the guitar solo rocks.

Thin Lizzy - Chinatown (1980)

DISCOVERED

To me there are two songs that define Thin Lizzy, "Jailbreak" and "The Boys Are Back In Town". I do have to admit there are some good songs on here. I do admit that Phil's vocal style isn't among my favorites, and in my opinion the reason I didn't listen to more Thin Lizzy.

Ted Nugent - Cat Scratch Fever (1977)

MEMORY

This is who the freaks listened to, the ones that wore their olive green army coats, smoking cigarettes in the their cars, during lunch in the student parking lot. I had very little friends in high school. I was a geek, a nerd. In the late 70s, nerds had ZERO social status. There was a small group of outcasted freaks that eventually invited me into their fold, and one of them had an 8 track player. Our lunch was a variety of Kansas, Supertramp, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, and an occasional Harry Chapin and Charlie Daniels Band and of course Ted Nugent. He was known as The Motor City Madman. The album cover nailed that persona, and he sang about poon tang! I remember the intro to the second song...EPIC!!

Survivor - All Your Pretty Moves (1979)

DISCOVERED
I found this and at thought woah, I don't recall this release...
Because, THIS IS NOT EYE OF THE TIGER SURVIVOR
The song I am feature to represent this album remind me a little of Thin Lizzy. There are some wild tempo changes and some great guitar work

Hero - Boys Will Be Boys (1978)

DISCOVERED

I am wondering if the influx of Canadian music wasn't included into the mainstream in the late 70s. I am discovering a vast list of undiscovered bands for those hosers. This band sound like a mix of Sweet and Foghat. Added to rotation, Good Stuff!

Teaze - Body Shots (1980)

DISCOVERED
Wow, this is amazing! If you like Hard Rock from the early 80s. You really have to hear this. This reminds me of 1979-1980 Rainbow when Graham Bonnet was the throat. High Energy, Balls Out Rock and roll. Nearly every one of these songs could have been covered by an 80s Hair Band, and it would have fit right in.

Russ Ballard - Barnet Dogs (1980)

DISCOVERED

So Russ Ballard is the lead singer and Guitarist for the band Argent,
Remember, Hold Your Head Up? Yeah?
Well this is...Fantastic! A discovered Hard Rock Gem! You would think that the songs would be similar to what was Argent biggest hit. No, not even close.

These are much much harder. I picked one out that to me rose above the rest.

Gary Moore - Back on the Streets (1979)

DISCOVERED
First...Gary Moore is my favorite guitar player. Not solely on his technical ability, but also for his ability to capture a feeling or emotion when he plays. The first time I heard Gary Moore was his cover of "Shapes Of Things To Come". I bought everything I could get my hands on. He is one of the few guitar players that is allowed in my library that plays blues.
